Rationale
| |
This unit integrates aspects across the Key Learning Areas of Society and Environment, Science, Maths and Information and Communication Technology.
The project concluded an eight week integrated unit in Science with an emphasis on biology, forces and chemicals.
Teacher-directed research into factors relevant to a design brief, using appropriate information sources and research methods/strategies. Students use knowledge
and understanding of factors which have impacted on the development of scientific ideas over time within chemical, physical,
biological, earth and/or space science contexts.

Student Tasks
| |
The class was provided with an activity that required them to produce the following by the end of the 4 weeks.
Research a science issue or concept. |
Draft a story board. |
Use this information to create an Xpression. |
Publish/Upload. |

Involvement for Xpression Participant
| |
To complete the task the students:
Insert worlds and objects from the world and object libraries. |
Use the tools option to resize and adjust objects. |
Swatch and clone. |
Use the Notepad to create text. |
Use the animation, keypoint, flying options to create movement. |
Use the link option to create movement between scenes. |
Save and compress their Xpression. |

Learning Outcomes for Student Creator
| |
| |
Students develop their own questions for investigation, collect relevant information from a range of sources and make judgments about its worth.
Students develop ICT tools and techniques that support the organisation and analysis of concepts, issues and ideas and that allow relationships to be identified and inferences drawn from them.
Students explain change in terms of cause and effect.
They identify the characteristics of physical and chemical changes.
They describe how substances change during reactions.
They identify and compare the properties of the new or changed material/s with those of the original material/s.
Students explain the role of chemical change in the production of new materials.
They qualitatively describe changes in motion in terms of the forces present.
| |
Collaborative Potential
| |
| |
Research for project could be a team effort.
Issues in science have two or more sides. Each collaborative group could develop an Xpression from different views. Xpressions could then be shared and published as one.
Presentations, sharing, adding to project.
