Rationale

Working individually, students were given the brief of creating a "Mini Movie" of no longer than four minutes in either the Science Fiction or Fantasy genre. All movies had to incorporate work using the following programs - Kahootz, istopmotion, Garageband and imovie.

Student Tasks

Day One
  • 9am - 12 midday Create animated content for the film using Kahootz.
  • 1pm - 3.30pm Create music for film using Garageband.

  • Day Two
  • 9am - 12 midday Use istopmotion to create an ident for an imaginary production company to put at the start of the films. Plasticene was used to create any characters needed.
  • 1pm - 3pm Use imovie to edit all the component parts of the film together.
  • 3pm - 3.30pm Screening event for peers and family members.

    Learning Outcomes for Student Creator

The opportunity to use hardware and software not available to them back in school.
The chance to use a variety of multimedia to create a finished project.
The ability to develop critical thinking skills and exercise fitness for purpose when deciding on the content for and how to edit their films.
The chance to explore two different types of animation.

    Collaborative Potential

The original Kahootz Xpressions could be re-edited by another student. The addition of different music and editing style could result in a very different film being created.
Students could begin with one of the pieces of music created and then design a Kahootz Xpression based on what they feel would be an appropriate visual accompaniment to the music.
